Day Twelve-Sunset

Late post today. I will tell you I have been in slow motion all day so it's no surprise I'm barely getting this is in by midnight. Yesterday after work I went to a friend's house to catch up at about 7. The sun was still up and shining so I decided I would eat something and go for a stroll once it started getting golden outside. But, instead, I got carried away catching up and next thing I know I look out the window and it's totally dark. Fail.

So today I did my day thirteen assignment and kept in the back of my mind that I could not miss another sunset. It was foggy all day over here in the Sunset and after I ran some errands I thought if there was any hope of seeing the sun I would have to go across town. I hopped on the freeway towards downtown ready to stop wherever it was peaking through. No such luck, the entire city was covered in a thick blanket of low, gray fog. So I decided to go somewhere high as fast as possible before any more light fell off.

Here is a summer evening in San Francisco. I'm sure there were lots of shivering tourists today. They always pack way too optimistically and then end up buying all those SF jackets and fleeces, you know the ones I'm talking about if you live here or if you have ever been to Fisherman's Wharf. They all have a SF patch with a Golden Gate Bridge on one side of the zipper. As if a fanny pack doesn't give away the fact that you're a tourist fast enough.

To add to my aforementioned fail, I get home to find that the fog above the ocean had blown away, which probably made for a great photo opt. (Deep, cleansing, patience-inducing breath. Trying not to be bitter.) Que sera, sera.

Day Eleven-Something Blue

These guys sit on my monitor at work. I get one when I order stuff from Photojojo. The blue one came in the box with my "Keep Calm and Snap On" poster and the other I got yesterday with my new camera bag. It's funny, I never even realized that dinosaur is blue before. All of the sudden yesterday I looked at it and thought, "Hey! That's blue!" When you are looking for "something blue" suddenly you see things that you didn't pay much attention to before. The same thing happened on my "something green" day, but blue was different because there's not as much blue around as there is green. Especially on a day like today when the weather couldn't make up it's mind and there were only little blue spots between gray clouds. Hoping for some sun tomorrow so I can take my lunch outside and remember that there is a whole world going on outside our freezing cold, over-air-conditioned office.

Day Ten-Childhood Memory

Here are some glances at a park my sister and I used to play at when we were younger. It's right next to the apartment complex where we used to live and down the street from where I work now. I went by yesterday after work at about six and the light was really nice.

We used to yell into these things to communicate across the park. Even though you could never really understand what the other person said it was really fun.

I used to slide this thing like a mad woman.

I hope you are having a good Thursday. It's almost Friday! I am especially excited because next Tuesday I leave for Chicago! After three days in Chi Town we will relax in Traverse City, Michigan for a week. I think my brain is already on vacation.

Day Nine-Someone You Love

Luckily, Stephen is also a photographer so when I asked him to be my subject first thing when he walked in the door he was not shocked. I got him to be still for all of five seconds. He was much more concerned with the new game he downloaded onto my iPhone called "Nuts!" where you are a squirrel running up a tree collecting coins, not nuts. Does that make sense to you? Good, it shouldn't.

Does he look pensive up there? Because in reality he is watching The Office while holding my ipod with his squirrel game paused. The outtakes below are more representative of the shoot.

If you or someone you know is interested in skateboarding check out his new weekly post on Slap Magazine's website called "Triple Double." Click here to check out the first Triple Double post. Do it!

Day Eight-A Bad Habit

Hi, my name is Nicole and I'm a snackoholic. Nice to meet you. I took this photo at my desk at work yesterday and almost got away with being stealthy but, as usual, I did not complete my mission unnoticed. I was leaning back in my chair trying to get a good angle of my aforementioned bad habit when a co-worker passing by noticed what I was doing. Me being normal at my desk usually includes earphones, head bobbing and slightly-dancing-in-my-seat-but-not-too-much-because-I'm-at-work (I have issues sitting still all day, especially if I'm listening to music) so I was definitely branching out by setting up a mini photo shoot of my 100 calorie Oreo thins splayed across my notes. Who needs normal? I'm trying to take photos people!

Moral of the story, buy real Oreos. These things are just silly. But if you love the taste of air I highly recommend them.

Day Seven-Fruit

When I thought about what I would do for the fruit task I remembered something my mom used to love to do with peaches and whatever other fruit was in the house. She would slice a peach and put it into a bowl with the other fruit. I like nectarines better, so I used those instead. You could use whatever you like; it's good with blueberries, bananas, raspberries, whatever you have.

Then, you sprinkle with sugar and add milk.

So easy, yet so delicious!

The one tip I will give you: Pour the milk on the side of the bowl so the sugar stays on top of the fruit instead of washing to the bottom.

Happy Monday! One week down!

Day Six-From a Low Angle

"I like it when a flower or a little tuft of grass grows through a crack in the concrete. It's so fuckin' heroic." -George Carlin

Sidewalk weeds up the street from my apartment. In the distance on the right is an awesome lady who was walking her super happy boxer who came up behind me really excited that I was knelt down on the sidewalk to take a picture of these flower weeds coming through the cracks. She said it's really great to be able to see things like this, to actually notice them. And that she knew it would make a great picture. Sometimes strangers are really awesome. Especially when they have really sweet dogs.
(Sorry about the f*bomb gma<--that's slang for grandma, cause that's how I roll. Boom.)
